About
Hello. My name is Hirman and Hirmie is my alter ego - a part of me that I’ve recently discovered during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020. An alter ego is a second-self created by the individual – usually to live out a better version of the self. In comic books, Bruce Wayne runs his business during the day, and Peter Parker works as a photographer for the Daily Bugle. However, they each have a crime-fighting alter-ego who makes an appearance when needed.
By day, I manage a premium Japanese chocolate store (ROYCE') located on N. Michigan Ave in Chicago, Ilinois. When I am not selling chocolate, I am constantly brainstorming and looking for inspiration for the next big project which led to my eponymous label: HIRMIE. It started with one product: A mask lanyard. During my daily bike ride to work on the Chicago lakefront, I noticed many mask litters and wanted to solve this problem. A mask lanyard to secure the face mask and to keep the city clean. Perhaps as clean and green as Singapore, where I am originally from; the other city I call home.
Currently I reside in Edgewater with my partner, David. I graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a BSc in Hospitality & Tourism Management. Upon graduation, I moved to Ithaca in upstate New York to pursue a Master of Management in Hospitality from the Cornell University and eventually became an entrepreneur. Many of the items on this site are handmade (unless otherwise stated). I am constantly looking for opportunities to collaborate with other makers and small business owners. I am a strong advocate for Shop Small, Shop Local and I am passionate about helping others and creating products that would serve a purpose. And maybe spark joy!
